Fighting misinformation in electoral times

Last year, we observed how mis and disinformation spread on social media aimed at influencing voters' decisions in the run-up to the US, French and other presidential elections. In 2018, general elections will be held in numerous countries in the region: Colombia, Costa Rica, Paraguay and Venezuela; and the two most populated ones: Brazil and Mexico. The role of news media in this context will be crucial not only in limiting the spread of rumors, manipulated and fabricated content but also in providing verified and balanced information to voters. What tools can newsrooms and news media companies use to do so?
