Jermaine Craig is the Group Executive for Sport and Motoring at the Independent Media group, South Africa. Craig has over 20 years experience in the media industry, starting as an intern at the Cape Argus newspaper before rejoining Independent in 2013 as the Editor of the Argus.
As a Senior Football Writer at The Star, Craig covered the local football Premiership and the national team Bafana Bafana, while also covering events such as the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2006 Fifa World Cup™ in Germany for Independent. Craig also worked at The Star in Johannesburg as Night Editor and ultimately as an Executive Editor.
In 2007, Craig was appointed as Media Manager of the 2010 Fifa World Cup™ Organising Committee South Africa, where he handled the media relations management for Africa’s first FIFA World Cup and also acted as a spokesperson for the historic event.
At the end of 2010 Craig joined South African Tourism as its Global Communications Manager, where his responsibilities included leveraging global media advertising deals, formulation of in-country brand communication strategies and assisting business units, country offices and other units to amplify their work globally.
In his role as head of Independent Media’s Sport and Motoring business units, Craig is responsible for the group’s editorial content and for the commercialisation of these important areas of the business.
