I started my career in 1994 and have worked in several major publications in the country. I was also a correspondent for the Associated Press and continues to string for The Economist and NHK Japan Broadcasting from Sri Lanka. I have done exhaustive coverage of Sri Lanka's civil war, corruption and politics. I have also worked in radio and won international and national journalism awards as well as fellowships. I received the D.R. Wijewardene Award for Earning the Appreciation of Peers and the Public in 2006 and 2017 from the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute, the only journalist to get it twice by nomination. I have been a director of the Sri Lanka Press Complaints Commission. I am currently the Assistant Editor of the Sunday Times in Sri Lanka.
