Ravi Hiranand was appointed Executive Producer of the South China Morning Post in January 2018. He is in charge of the editorial direction and content creation of Abacus, SCMP’s news product reporting all about China tech for the rest of the world.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ravi has spent 14 years at CNN International in Hong Kong, covering a wide range of news from the Mumbai terror attacks to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. In 2011, he launched the network’s flagship Asia primetime show, News Stream, a global newscast with a heavy focus on technology stories.

Outside of work, Ravi can often be found flying across Hong Kong with his drone, exploring virtual worlds in video games, and building tiny worlds with LEGO.
