In June 2018 Richard was appointed as Managing Director of News Scotland and News Ireland.

Richard joined News Scotland in April 2015 as General Manager. Richard has built up the commercial and corporate elements of News Scotland as General Manager, creating a well-recognised media brand with key commercial relationships, complementing the three Scottish titles, which are all leading their markets.

Previous roles in the news media industry included Group Sales Director at Johnston Press, a similar role at Express Newspapers, Assistant Managing Director at The Scotsman Publications and other commercial roles at The Independent and IPC magazines.

He has worked for all his career in the news media sector after graduating in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex.

Richard is married with two boys and lives outside Edinburgh.
