Kirsty Styles

Researcher, Media Innovation Studio, University of Central Lancashire, UK

Kirsty has almost a decade of journalism and campaigning experience focused on creating projects that help get information to people that need it.

This includes five years working as a technology journalist covering mobile, startups and tech giants, which led to the production of a standup show about this work.

Alongside this, in 2015, she launched a jargon-busting, award-winning podcast on economics for the New Economics Foundation think tank, the Weekly Economics Podcast.

In 2016, working for government-backed Tech North, she launched a public speaker programme for women in tech, to change the conversation about digital jobs. In 2017, she helped the Bureau of Investigative Journalism's Bureau Local understand, for the first time, public sector cuts through collaborative investigative journalism.

She's now back at university interrogating 'public' 'journalism' - again through comedy - borrowing from public engagement activity done by the universities sector.
