Monday August 13

  • Introduction of participants
  • Understanding Longform or narrative journalism as seen in India (from samples brought by participants) the special features, how distinct from other forms of reportage, relevance, context and variation of mediums – dailies, periodicals, websites, radio. 
  • Using the samples in hand, analyse the characteristics and methods employed, and think up possible stories each participant can do in his/her area of specialisation and interest.
  • Discuss the tools and methodology each will use (eg, interview, research, RTI, data analysis, graphics, photos) to make it possible
  • Exercise:Each one outlines of participants selected story and gets down to writing.
  • Continue writing and discuss doubts and seek help. Complete the work. 

 

Tuesday August 14

  • Using a couple of examples [shown by the trainer-- foreign and Indian] explaining the style of writing and editing (headers, break heads, blurbs etc), the layout and formatting for print and for digital, use of photos, graphics etc.
  • Collate the techniques and special features from the examples discussed on both days and check their story against those and make changes as needed. Think of transforming these stories across platforms and see what changes will be required.
  • Peer review of the work – critique each story by another participant. Make notes
  • Each participant discusses what they can apply in their work context and area of interest from was learned at the workshop. Point out problems one may encounter, so that suggestions can be discussed and recommendations incorporated in the WAN-IFRA report.
