New categories

WAN-IFRA is at the forefront of the industry's latest trends. This year's new categories are:

  1. Best Digital Audio Project
  2. Best Lifestyle or Sports Site - this category is now exclusive to LATAM
  3. Best in Audience Engagement - previously named Best in Social Media Engagement
  4. Best Project for News Literacy - previously named Best Digital Project to Engage Young and/or Millennial Audiences
  5. Best Digital Journalism Project - In the past two editions, this awards has been granted by an internal jury nomination from among all the projects that applied to our categories. This year the dynamics change, the category will now be like all the others and will be open to anyone who wants to participate

You can check categories descriptions and details here.

New awards to small publishers per category

You'll notice the following question has been added to the application process:

"How many employees does your company have? "

This will allow for a small publisher to be awarded in each category in order to expand the competition to media that are doing an excellent job but do not compete on equal terms and resources compared to larger media.

How does it work?

  • Companies with newsrooms of less than 100 journalists will be eligible.
  • This award will be given to the small publisher that has obtained the highest score in each of the categories of the competition.
  • If your site or newspaper is a part of a larger company, please count only the journalists for your division.

If you have any doubts please contact us.
