Programme

We all tell stories, whether we realise it or not – it’s how we pass on wisdom and knowledge. A great storyteller creates a lasting connection between their story and audience. Choosing the right words for a story is about understanding who’s listening. Who are you telling your story to? Why is it relevant to them? Keeping your audience in mind when you write an article, a video or audio script is the key to engaging them with the story.

In this two day master-class, lead by award-winning film-maker and journalist, Angela Robson, we’ll focus on principles of creating engaging stories, using the key journalistic messages your media network or organisation wants to communicate.

We’ll be covering:

 •         What makes a story?

•          Knowing your audience

•          The news hook

•          Choosing your outlet

•          Principles of powerful story-telling

•          Selling your story

•          Photography and video

•          Interviewees

We will use up-to-date news stories to show you how to make simple messages from complex stories, and how to achieve positive press coverage in an environment of press fatigue.

Angela Robson is a multi award-winning journalist, writer and film-maker. She has reported from over fifty countries, producing media content from some of the world’s most challenging environments, for media outlets including the BBC, the Guardian, Al Jazeera and Le Monde diplomatique.
