Laws relating to Media relate to a whole range of issues many of which have an intersection. To give an example a person charged with the offence of sedition could also be charged with having committed an offence under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. In the same way a person charged with defamation can also be charged with obscenity. So an understanding of various laws and their implications are very essential for persons in the media.

The purpose of the workshop will be to provide an overview of the framework of some of the essential legislations governing the media in the Indian Legal System. Journalists participating in it will be benefited by getting an understanding of the complexities of the laws, its application in addressing contemporary concerns.
