As more data is collected by private and public organisations, the stories we can tell with it expand as well. Data literacy and the ability to tell stories with data has become a crucial part of journalism and the reporting process. Little points of information that are often not relevant in a single instance, can be massively important when viewed from the right angle and combined with the appropriate context. Now that the information is abundant, processing that is more important.

This webinar by WAN-IFRA, supported by Learn with Facebook Journalism Project aim to help Indian journalists in updating their skills to suit the new working conditions and challenges. Participants will gain insights about analysing and communicating data to improve visualisations to tell ways to improve their stories.

Learning outcomes

Participants will learn how to find and clean data, analyse it and tell engaging stories using those insights.  They will walk away with steps to start incorporating data to improve their stories.  Journalists from WAN-IFRA member companies across South Asia will be given preferences to join these programs. There will be a lot of tips and case studies to learn from. At the end of this series, participants will be able to understand; 

  • How to get and analyse data.
  • Tips and tools to start incorporating data in stories.
  • Data cleaning process.
  • Best practices to make charts and tell engaging stories
