    E-commerce, micro transactions and mobile payment: LightSpeed POS, the Shopify killer

    LightSpeed, a provider of e-business solutions for retailers and restaurants, is creating about twenty new positions every month. At present, LightSpeed has 300 employees worldwide, 200 of whom work in Montreal. Three years ago, the company employed just  50 persons. Its New York office, opened in 2012, proved a rapid success. Montreal and  New York manage 60% of all Lightspeed customers. All other business is done in Europe, and since recently also in Singapore. The 40,000 businesses served by LightSpeed EPOS (Electronic Point Of Sale) generate sales totalling 15 billion US dollars. The LightSpeed platforms can keep a track of stock levels, customer preferences, sales, and analytical data. The orders managed by the Montreal-based company rose by 123% in one year, mainly due to the acquisition of the Belgium-based Posios company.

    Consisting of a “path of light” and a presentation, the show combines spectacular lighting, orchestral music, video, and architectural elements, and participates in the celebrations marking Montreal’s 375th anniversary.The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, that bears the name of basilica due to the relics housed there, was built in the Gothic Revival style by the New York-based architect, James O’Donnell. Its twin towers, given the names “perseverance” and “temperance”, were added several years later by the architect John Ostell. The multimedia show produced by Moment Factory was realised with the participation of Québecor, the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec.
