Chee Kong joined TODAY in June 2005 as a Reporter. He left TODAY in December 2009 to set up business news website start-up The Corporate Observer. He re-joined TODAY as News Editor in August 2010 and was promoted to Executive Editor in July 2012.  Chee Kong was re-designated as Associate Editor in January 2013, looking after the General News and Business desks.  He was promoted to Supervising Editor in July 2018 and appointed Deputy Chief Editor on August 25, 2018, where he now oversees TODAY's fully-digital operations and its efforts to focus on a millennial audience.
