His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan is the Minister of Tolerance in the new Cabinet announced in October 2017.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak joined the Federal Government in 1992 and held a number of government portfolios including Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Minister of Education and Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak was also Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University from 1983 to 2013; Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology from 1988 to 2013; and President of Zayed University from 1998 to 2013 .

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan received his education at the British Millfield School until the high secondary level before joining Magdalen College at Oxford University-UK .

I started my career in the banking sector, where l worked for the British Bank of the Middle East for two years. In 1997, I moved to Dubai Media Incorporated and worked at its Financial Support Services Department for nine years. Afterwards I moved to the publishing sector, where l worked as Director of the Subscription and Distribution Department and later as Deputy General Manager of Al Bayan Newspaper, before l worked as Executive General Manager of four newspapers, namely Al Bayan, Emarat Alyoum, Emirates Today and Emirates 24/7. I then moved to DMI as (CMO) Chief of Commercial Affairs and Marketing Officer for the TV channels, newspapers, radio channels, printing press and Tawseel Company. Now I'm the CEO of Press Sector in Dubai Media Inc.

Meanwhile, I have always been responsible for the administrative side (Human Resources - Information Technology - Financial Management - Sales - Marketing) and the link between the media and administrative sides of DMI.

Furthermore, I have contributed to a number of DMI's major projects, most notably Al Bayan's paperless hall, the re-launch of Al Bayan Newspaper, the conversion of Emarat Alyoum from a free newspaper to a paid one, the conversion of Emirates 24/7 from a printed newspaper to a digital one, the inception of Ara Magazine and the foundation of Tawseel Company.

Majed Al Suwaidi was appointed as the Managing Director for Dubai Media City (DMC), Dubai Studio City (DSC) and Dubai Production City (DPC) in March 2016.

Prior to his current role, Majed was the Managing Director of Dubai Internet City (DIC), the MENA region’s largest ICT business community and Dubai Outsource City (DOC), a modern, hi-tech business hub dedicated to the growing outsourcing industry.

Mohammed Fahad Alharthi is a Saudi media person, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters degree in International Journalism from City University, UK, and has a twenty years of experience in the traditional and new media fields.
He started his career in Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper in London before joining as a correspondent for the Arab News newspaper, issued in English. He also joined the Financial Times of London as a visiting journalist.
He moved on to work in Al Eqtisadiah newspaper published in Saudi Arabia, and was appointed as a regular journalist, then he became responsible for the front page and the managing editor later. In 1997 he became editor in chief of Arrajol magazine, which was published in London, for the Saudi Research and Marketing Group. During this period, he earned the Gulf Excellence Award in 2002 after the great success of which the magazine has witnessed.

In 2004, he became the editor in chief of Sayidaty and Aljamila magazines, issued for the same group, he took them a year later from London to Media City in Dubai. He played a key role in transforming Sayidaty magazine to a wide range of specialized magazines and websites in the shade of Sayidaty, such as "Sayidaty decor”, "Sayidaty and your baby" and "Sayidaty Fashion ', in addition to issuing the monthly magazine Sayidaty in English.
He became the editor in chief of the Arab News in Saudi Arabia for the Saudi Research and Marketing Group from 2013 until 2016. During this time he has launched the project of the Arab News talk show forum that hosts seminars attended by officials and diplomats to discuss topical issues.
In 2015 he started the program “ bdoonshak” at the mbc channel, which he hosts and manages, the program discusses social issues boldly ,and has raised high controversy and earned a lot of followers in the Arab world.

He won the election of the administration board of the Saudi journalists association in November 3, 2016 and became a member of the Council representing the media sector in Saudi Arabia.
He is a Founding member of the Young Arab Leaders Forum in Davos Middle East. A member of the Gulf 2000 Project at Columbia University in New York, and a Former member of the British Union of Journalists NUJ
Al Harthy earned the creative media award in Beirut in 2014 for his successes in the printed , visual and electronic media.
He currently, in addition to his TV program, “ bdoonshak, heads Arrajol magazine that focuses on dialogues of leaders and powerful personalities in the Arab world. He is also the editor in chief of the magazine Sayidaty, and its publications, Aljamila magazine and its website, in addition to the site, Sayidy, which addresses the Arab youth category.

Al Harthy is an active participant in many Arab and international conferences and forums, in which he has spoken about printed and new media. He shares political articles in the Journal of Asharq Al-Awsat, and Al-Bayan newspapers. He in addition to that has a weekly column in Sayidaty and an article in the monthly magazine Arrajol.

Managing Director, Jang Media Group, Pakistan

Sarmad Ali is Managing Director at the Jang Media Group, Pakistan’s largest media conglomerate having presence in Print, Broadcast and the Digital space.

Sarmad Ali has over twenty-five years of experience in marketing, advertising and media management.  He has been associated with the Jang Group since 1994 when he joined the group as Executive Director of the English daily “The News”.  Under his stewardship, The News became one of Pakistan’s two premier English dailies.  In 1997 he took over as the Group’s Executive Director, Marketing & Sales and in 2006 was promoted as Managing Director.

Prior to joining the Jang Group, Sarmad has been associated with some of the country’s leading advertising agencies including IAL/Saatchi, where he worked as Director Client Services from 1987 to 1993.

He is presently President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and has previously served as its Secretary General and Joint Secretary.  He is also President of the International Advertising Association’s Pakistan Chapter and serves on IAA’s Global Board of Directors.  Sarmad also serves on the council of the World Branding Forum.  He is Board member and Treasurer of the Management Association of Pakistan. Sarmad is the Chairman of the Ad-Asia 2019 Organizing Committee.

Described as one of Pakistan’s marketing thought leaders, Sarmad has been thrice the President of the Marketing Association of Pakistan.  In 1999, he was awarded the coveted Marketing Excellence Award for his contribution in the field of marketing,  Ranked amongst Pakistan’s top 100 Business Leaders, Sarmad received the Asian Brand Leadership Award from the Asian Brand Congress in 2007 and the 50 Most Talented CMOs Award at the World Marketing Summit in 2013.

Digital Media Strategist, Consultant and Content Creator, Jordan

Lara Ayoub is a digital media strategist, consultant and content creator, with more than 17 years of experience, as well as the co-founder of a nonprofit women’s empowerment organisation SADAQA, which aims at empowering women, advocating their rights, and creating a family-friendly workplace.

To date, she has launched and operated the digital newsrooms of 3 TV stations and two print publications including Jordan’s first 24-7 public service news station AlMamlaka TV, privately owned Ro’ya TV and Alghad Newspaper. She is a certified in video production, by the London School of Media, Film and TV.

Ayoub sits on the boards of Save the Children – Jordan, and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers Middle East.

Kevin Beatty

Kevin joined DMGT in 1996 from the Mirror Group, where he had been Managing Director of the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail. Having previously served as Managing Director of The Mail on Sunday, Managing Director of the Evening Standard and Metro, Chief Operating Officer of Associated New Media and Managing Director of Northcliffe Media, he is now Chief Executive of dmg media and a Director of DMGT. Kevin is a board member of the Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA) and represents the UK publishing industry on the Board of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN -IFRA). He is also a non-executive director of Press Association (PA Media), where he chairs the nominations committee and is a member of the remuneration committee.

Chief Operating Officer, Newspaper Printing Axel Springer at Axel Springer Print Management GmbH

Thomas Drensek was born 1960 in Germany. After having finished grammar school he did an apprenticeship in business management. Afterwards he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Aachen (Germany) where he graduated as an engineer. During that time he worked in Columbia (South America) for 6 months.

He started his professional career at Axel Springer SE as an assistant to the technical board member in 1989. After that he was General Manager in Spain, where Axel Springer established up two printing plants in Madrid and Barcelona.

Then he started as the production manager in the Offset printing plant Ahrensburg close to Hamburg. After taking on additional responsibilities of prepress and mailroom departments he was appointed General Manager in July 2003.

Since May 2009 he is also responsible for the Axel Springer corporate group project Customer Relationship. In 2013 he went to the Silicon Valley for several months to develop new technologies in the Axel Springer program „Visiting Fellowship“.

Founder and Director, Welad Elbalad Media Services LTD, Egypt

Fatemah Farag is the Founder and Director of Welad Elbalad Media Services LTD, a company dedicated to community media development and media excellence in Egypt. She is also currently a Nieman Fellow, the MENA Director for WAN IFRA’s Women in News Program and a WEF Board Member.

Before establishing Welad Elbalad Media Services, Ms. Farag was the founding chief editor of the English Edition of Al Masry Al Youm. Before 2009, she divided her professional time between the newsroom and journalism training and education. She was Assistant Chief Editor, responsible for the features and life-style sections and senior staff reporter at Al-Ahram Weekly, the English language newspaper issued by Al-Ahram, before which she worked for the Regional Bureau of the Washington Post, was a full time staff reporter for the Middle East Times – Egypt, and has freelanced for a host of local and international news organizations. 

As an educator she has held the position of Training Consultant for the Heikal Foundation for Arab Journalism and has also consulted and trained for various organizations including the European Union, the British Council, Free Voice and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. She also taught journalism at the American University in Cairo (AUC) for two years and continues to dedicate time to journalism training.
Ms Farag began her career specializing in development issues with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and as a reporter and newspaper editor she has dedicated much of her work to the coverage of social issues. She is a graduate of the American University in Cairo, from which she also received a Masters degree in political science.

Dr Mario Garcia is CEO and Founder of Garcia Media, a global consulting firm. 

He is also the Senior Adviser for News Design/Adjunct Professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, which he joined in 2013 as the Hearst Digital Media Professor in Residence.

He is known worldwide as one of the premiere media designers, having completed over  700 projects in 120 countries, including TheThe Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Paris Match (France) , South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), New Straits Times (Malaysia),  Aftenposten (Norway), The Philadelphia Inquirer, Die Zeit and Handelsblatt (Germany), all the McClatchy newspapers in the US, eight Postmedia newspapers in Canada, Goteborgs Posten( Sweden), Il Secolo XIX (Italy), The Citizen (South Africa). His current projects include Tagesspiegel (Berlin), Kurier (Vienna) and NOZ Digital group (Hamburg).

Currently, Dr. Garcia devotes most of his consulting and workshops to help organizations with transformation to a mobile-first approach, including training for how to write/edit/design for the smallest platform - that of the smartphone - where a large percentage of users get their information.

His mobile storytelling digital book, The Story, was published in late 2019 in a trilogy covering Transformation, Storytelling and Design.

Mario founded the Graphics & Design program at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, where he serves as a member of the Poynter Foundation. He has been involved with the Institute's EyeTrack studies since the 1980s, including the most recent EyeTrack for the Tablet in 2012.

His academic career includes full professor at both Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications and the University of South Florida's Department of Mass Communications. He is the author of 13 books, including his first digital publication, Storytelling in the Age of the iPad.

Mario has received over 300 SND Awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award. People Magazine selected Mario among the 100 Most Influential Hispanics. The University of Missouri awarded Mario its Medal of Honor in Journalism.

Former Technical & Production Director, The Times of India, India

 Sanat Hazra studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology, earning BS in Photographic Science & Engineering, MS in Printing Technology and attended Tuck College at Dartmouth University studying Corporate Leadership Program. Before joining the Times of India as Technical and Production Director in 2008, Sanat worked at the New York Daily News as VP of Production. Sanat dedicated 14 years with the New York Times prior to joining the New York Daily News. As Executive Director of Production at the New York Times, Sanat was responsible for transforming the company's two printing plants into state of the art operations, optimising the entire supply chain of the newspaper, implementing Statistical Process Control and Six Sigma process and Winning many International Newspaper Color Quality Club awards.   Prior to the NYT, he worked for the Crosfield Electronics as Senior Material Science Engineer. At Crosfield Electronics, he developed direct imaging thermal plate for CTP application.

Chief Operating Officer, WAN-IFRA, Germany

Thomas Jacob was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of WAN-IFRA in 2012. He is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s strategy to be a platform for exchange of ideas, information and experiences among the global news publishing industry. Prior to this Jacob was the Deputy CEO, taking care of regional operations.

Prior to WAN-IFRA, Jacob worked for DMG Media, publisher of Daily Mail and Metro in the United Kingdom. As the International Development Director, he identified and evaluated digital media companies in Asia for potential acquisition. He also conceptualized and launched a compact midmarket newspaper, Mail Today, for the Indian market as a JV with the India Today Group.

Jacob is an MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. As a summa cum laude, he is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for management in the United States.

He is a trained engineer in electronics and telecommunications, having graduated with distinction from the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal, in India.

Sam Joiner is the Interactive News Editor for the Times and the Sunday Times. Part of the cross-title digital team, Sam works with journalists and section editors across all Times and Sunday Times desks to bring stories to life digitally.

From quick turnaround content for daily news articles, such as charts and timelines, to large scale, long-running major events like the Olympics or US election, his team focus on adding value to stories and ensuring readers get the most from their digital subscriptions.

Sam is a graduate from the University of Bristol, where he read history. He has previously worked for the Guardian and Microsoft.

Alexander Kratzer, born 1973, has been CEO of MHS Digital since 2011; MHS Digital covers all strategic and most operational matters for the digital activities of all publishers of the group. These include Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten as well as various titles throughout the south(west) of Germany.

Before - and mostly parallel - that, Alexander worked at Südwestdeutsche Medienholding (SWMH) as group leader for digital businesses and built up experiences in venture financing and new business models. Not just since then, Alexanders priorities are in the development of current, new and innovative products and businesses for the newspaper industry.

Head of Digital News Division, Chosun Ilbo, Korea

Hyo-Seop Shin is the newsroom editor for the digital news division at Chosun Ilbo, where he has worked since 2004. In October 2015, he became the head of digital news division, which is in charge of the publisher’s VR project, which started in February 2016. VR Chosun App, which his team developed, won "Most Innovative" at 2016 Google Play Awards in Korea. His previous positions at Chosun Ilbo include being an editorial writer and an article editor of culture, entertainment, and sports. Before joining Chosun Ilbo, he worked for the political department of Hankook Ilbo from 1988 to 2004.

Digital transformation, content strategy and innovation consultant, WEF Board Member, UK

Dmitry is an expert in digital transformation, content strategy, and innovation. He worked for 21 years at the BBC in London where he was responsible for developing and implementing the BBC’s digital editorial offer for 40 non-English foreign language new services. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Dmitry worked in various editorial-development roles for the digital section of BBC News. These roles required liaison between editorial, product and strategy teams in order to drive innovation and develop new ways of reaching audiences, increasing engagement across the world and, crucially, driving culture change is newsrooms. He is an experienced digital leader in content creation, specialising in growing audiences across the world, driving editorial changes in newsrooms and adapting the way organisations work in digital space, especially around content innovation and audience engagement.
After his years at the BBC, he joined Culture Trip, a startup operating at the intersection of media and travel. He is now pursuing new adventures. Dmitry's main area of expertise is on the intersection between Editorial, Organisational, Strategy and Product sectors.

News Director, NRK (Norwegian public service broadcaster), Norway

Helje Solberg is News Director of NRK, the Norwegian public service broadcaster. Prior to joining NRK, she was CEO/Editor of VGTV and Executive Managing Editor for VG, the largest Norwegian media house on paper and internet combined. Helje is chair of Faktisk.no, Norway's collaborative fact-checking initiative. She is on the advisory board of the World Editors Forum, is the head of the organising committee of Schibsted Journalism Awards and is on the Board of MBL (Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association). She is a member of the Oslo Editor Association and is a member of SKUP’s Advisory Committee. She has spent a year at Phillips Academy, Andover, has studied Russian, social anthropology and politics. Before becoming editor of VGTV she served as Executive Managing Editor for VG, the largest Norwegian daily. Solberg has worked for a number of Norwegian newspapers. She has experience across all platforms in VG, where she started working as a political reporter in 1994. The following year she received the SKUP Award for Investigative Journalism for the so-called “AUF Scandal” (which led to the imprisonment of former treasures and leaders of the Worker’s Youth League for membership fraud).

Xavier van Leeuwe (1975) has over ten years of experience as a marketing executive in media companies Telegraaf Media Groep, de Persgroep and NRC Media in the Netherlands. At NRC Media, Xavier has successfully lead his team from decline to growth by building a customer-centric and data-rich culture at a news organisation with 189 years of heritage in Amsterdam. Prior to being a media executive, Xavier worked several years as a financial and political journalist in the Netherlands. He started his career as a researcher for The United Nations in Geneva. Xavier has helped media companies with actionable insights and has been speaker at newspaper conferences in Antwerp, Amsterdam, Cologne and Atlanta. He is an active blogger for INMA.org and publishes a frequent and free newsletter Changemediaforgood.com. Xavier is a cum laude Master in Business Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam and holds a Post-Master degree in Journalism from that same university.

Principal Consultant, WAN-IFRA Consulting, Germany

Gregor Waller provides consulting services to international media businesses for developing their digital strategy and transforming their business models for the digital era. Before this, he worked for more than six years in various management functions for Germany's Axel Springer publishing corporation. Most recently, up to February 2011, as a member of the management team of the WELT group, Berliner Morgenpost, Hamburger Abendblatt, he was responsible for strategy & innovation and commercial management of the Zeitungsgruppe Hamburg. After testing a "prototype tablet" with his core newspaper readers – one year before the iPad – he focused on the topics of digital strategy, digital business models and paid content, bringing his experience in these areas to bear also in strategic group projects.

From 1998-2004 he worked for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GmbH in positions such as commercial manager for publishing houses Prestel and Xenos Verlag. Waller has a graduate degree in business administration from the University of Augsburg and an undergraduate degree in philosophy from the Munich School of Philosophy.

WAN-IFRA

Manfred Werfel was WAN-IFRA’s Deputy CEO until he retired on 1 June 2019. He was responsible for the Expo business of the association. He also managed the World Printers Forum, the print community within WAN-IFRA.

Since 1996 Werfel was part of WAN-IFRA’s management team. Over time he was responsible for Research, WAN-IFRA Reports, Expert Committees, Consulting, Training, Print Quality Projects, Events, Innovation Projects, World Press Trends, World News Media Congress, World Printers Forum and Expo. In 2012 he acted as Interim CEO.
