Barbie Atienza
Barbie Atienza is president of the United Print Media Group in the Philippines, an association of major newspapers - broadsheets and tabloids, magazines and books in the country. He is a writer and broadcaster, hosting TV and radio programs. An accomplished professional in both fields of public relations and human resource management, Barbie has worked with three multinational companies and two major Philippine companies. He is also a much sought-after speaker, resource speaker, lecturer, consultant and host/emcee in the Philippines and various countries. He is a known socio-civic leader, having been a Barangay Chairman and volunteer for various organizations, embracing various advocacies and causes. He was president of the People Management Association of the Philippines and the Society of Fellows in People Management, and a past Vice-president of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.

Chavarong Limpattamapanee
Chavarong Limpattamapanee has been the Chairman of The National Press Council of Thailand since November 2014. From March 2011 to March 2013, he was the President of Thai Journalists Association. He was the President of Society for Online News Providers (SONP) from October 2009 to September 2011 and at the same time the First Vice President of Thai Journalist Association from 2009 to 2011. He is currently the Manager of the Resources Centre of the Thairath Daily Newspaper since 1995. Prior to that, he was senior reporter for the Articles and Feature section from January 1992 to end 1994, specialising in social issues and civic movement, including Information and Communication Technology.

Chee Kong joined TODAY in June 2005 as a Reporter. He left TODAY in December 2009 to set up business news website start-up The Corporate Observer. He re-joined TODAY as News Editor in August 2010 and was promoted to Executive Editor in July 2012.  Chee Kong was re-designated as Associate Editor in January 2013, looking after the General News and Business desks.  He was promoted to Supervising Editor in July 2018 and appointed Deputy Chief Editor on August 25, 2018, where he now oversees TODAY's fully-digital operations and its efforts to focus on a millennial audience.

Cherilyn Ireton heads up the World Editors Forum, the global network for editors within WAN-IFRA. She is a seasoned newspaper professional, having spent more than 20 years on South African newspapers, as journalist and editorial manger on the country's leading titles, the Sunday Times and Business Day. She rose to be Chief Operating Officer of BDFM Publishers, the business media joint venture between Pearson, owners of the Financial Times, and Times Media in South Africa which published Business Day newspaper, the Financial Mail magazine and Summit TV. She relocated to the UK in 2005 and owned an ran a London-based media consultancy, Presslinks, which advised a variety of international organizations and foreign governments.

Dr Jochen Krauss
Dr Jochen Krauss is a Partner at Simon-Kucher and heads the company's operations in Singapore. He has more than ten years experience in consulting national and international clients in various industries. He specializes in developing market entry strategies and pricing strategies, optimizing pricing-processes and designing innovative price- and product-structures. Jochen’s views are highly sought after by the press and he is often invited to speak on TV news segments to share his insights on recent trends and events. Elena Torrijos is an award-winning journalist with over 20 years of experience working in the Philippines and Singapore. She is currently Yahoo News and Finance editor-in-chief for Verizon Media in Southeast Asia, managing a team of content producers, reporters and editors based in Singapore. She is a former managing editor for The Asian Banker, a regional financial publication. She won the “Local Journalist Award” in the 2006 SOPA Awards in the category for regional newspapers, large magazines and wire services published in English. She is also founder of a personal finance magazine in the Philippines called MoneySense. She was a business reporter for The Philippine Daily Inquirer, the country’s leading broadsheet, for more than five years before she moved to Singapore in 2004. She was a finalist three times for the Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism. Before Inquirer, she was a reporter for The Business Daily, a business paper, for several years.

Elsie Cheung

Elsie Cheung was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the South China Morning Post in January 2011. In this vital role, she implements strategic change to bring SCMP’s cultural and digital transformation to bear. She spearheads SCMP’s business operations, including advertising and marketing solutions, circulation and syndication, global marketing, print production, and the recruitment services business.

Ms Cheung started her career at SCMP before broadening her experience at other well-established organisations including Television Broadcast Limited (TVB), Hong Kong Telecom, and Sunevision. Upon her return to SCMP, Ms Cheung held the senior leadership positions of Head of Sales and Director of Advertising prior to her appointment as COO; she is now a 17-year veteran of the company.

He is developing podcasts as part of a voice strategy now.

Esther Ng joined the then Star Publications Berhad in June 1992 as a news reporter after leaving Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. As part of The Star's court and legal affairs team, the journalism graduate covered many important trials in her five-year tenure. During that time, she was also in the Parliament beat, leading the team until the 2000s. She returned to general news after leaving court reporting, covering mainly Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister assignments locally and abroad, as well as political assignments. 

Esther was made Senior Writer in 1999 and moved up the ranks to Chief Reporter, Assistant and Deputy News Editor. She was made News Editor in 2010, which saw her taking charge of the main desk – the largest and most dynamic desk in The Star. During that time, she spearheaded the KPI system, still in use today, for the department. She was then appointed Sunday Star Editor in 2015 where she led the revamping of the edition, making use of her vast experience in news. Until June 2018, she took on the role of Executive Editor before replacing the Editor-in-Chief as Star Media Group’s first Chief Content Officer, a title the company is pioneering in Malaysia in line with the group’s ongoing transformation effort.

Fergus Bell

Fergus Bell is an experienced digital journalist, editor and leading expert in digital newsgathering and the verification of user-generated content by news media. He is also a prominent advocate for higher industry standards relating to the ethical uses of UGC and social media.
Fergus has experience in both the business and editorial sides of the industry, most recently heading up newsroom partnerships and innovation for SAM desk, a social newsgathering tool for newsrooms. Fergus joined SAM from the Associated Press where, as international social media and UGC editor, he led the global operation to source and verify user-generated content for all of the AP’s platforms.
In October 2013 Fergus co-founded a committee for the Online News Association that has brought together leaders in the journalism community to explore the ethics and standards of UGC and digital newsgathering for the news industry. He is also founding member of the First Draft News coalition of UGC experts supported by the Google News Lab. Fergus is a graduate of the University of Leeds.

Goh Sin Teck
Mr Goh Sin Teck joined Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore Press Holding's Chinese flagship paper, in 1987 upon graduating from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He started as a crime reporter before assuming his current role as the Editor of Lianhe Zaobao & Lianhe Wanbao. Mr Goh has served in various public sector agency committees including Housing Development Board, Urban Redevelopment Authority Board, Public Transport Council, Primary Education Review and Implementation Committee, Singapore 21 Subcommittee on Foreign Talent, Charity Council, National Integration Council, Political Films Consultative Committee, Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning, and many more. At present, he is a member of Nanyang Technological University’s Board of Trustees, and National Translation Committee.

Hari Shankar

Hari is a seasoned digital media veteran with two decades of experience spanning the agency land, client side and the publisher eco-system. As the CEO of Singapore Media Exchange, a premium programmatic exchange in the market born out of the partnership between the media giants Singapore Press Holdings and Mediacorp in 2018, he is on his way to creating a strong alternative marketplace for programmatic buyers in Singapore and beyond within 12 months of inception.

Helena Phua

Helena Phua was appointed Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific of The New York Times Company in April 2014. She is responsible for The New York Times’ Asia Pacific operations and is Publisher of The New York Times Chinese Magazine, “Shi” in Chinese “時”, the company’s first publication in Simplified Chinese.

Under Helena’s leadership, The New York Times has become the regional leader in circulation and readership, achieving its highest ever circulation growth in Asia. Helena has also been instrumental in expanding The Times’ online audience and building its publishing alliance network across the region.

In 2016, Helena was elected to the Board of The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), the region's most prestigious media association, after previously serving as Honorary Treasurer from 2011 to 2013. Holly is the Head Of Content at Mamamia, which means she oversees the written, video and podcast teams. She's also a writer and editor and the host of two Mamamia podcasts, Mamamia Out Loud and This Glorious Mess. In 2017, Holly published her first novel, The Mummy Bloggers, and its sequel, How To Be Perfect, in September 2018. She's also got two small kids and eye-bags for days. Hu Shuli is the founder and Publisher of Caixin Media, and professor of the School of Communication and Design at Sun Yat-sen University.

Internationally recognized for her achievements in journalism, Ms Hu was named one of the World’s Greatest Leaders by Fortune in 2017. She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2014 and Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism in 2012. She was listed among Top 100 Influential People of 2011 by Time magazine. She was twice named one of Top 100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine in 2009 and 2010. The Caixin editorial team under her leadership won the 2011 Shorenstein Journalism Award from Stanford University. In 2007, she received the Louis Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism from the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University. Forensics Advisor (Asia-Pacific), International Committee of the Red Cross

Jacqueline is a Dentist Doctor of Surgery DDS. She has extensive experience in the areas of forensics, investigation of missing persons, and has participated in the management of mass disasters and crime scenes involving violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. Her work with the International Committee of the Red Cross includes providing support and advice on the development of several projects involving ministries, medico-legal systems, academia, armed forces, police and journalists. She also promotes forensic regional events in order to create networking through sharing experiences and best practices as well as developing policies and regulations. She has provided training to first responders on search and recovery of dead bodies in different contexts including sessions with experts on weapon contamination.

Jaime joined MediaCorp in August 2013 after serving 16 years in Singapore’s foreign service. While at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served in a variety of bilateral and multilateral assignments, including two overseas postings in Washington and Geneva.

At Mediacorp, he was first Associate Editor on the Singapore Desk at Channel NewsAsia. He later took on the position of Deputy Chief Editor, Radio News, a job he held from August 2014 to December 2018, overseeing the overall newsroom operations for Singapore’s only news and info-station. Other concurrent positions that he has held include Deputy Chief Editor, International News at Channel NewsAsia, where he oversaw the news-gathering functions of the newsroom and international correspondents. He held this post from April 2015 to March 2016.

Jaime was appointed Chief Editor, Channel NewsAsia Digital in March 2016, where he now oversees all digital news on cna.asia and its various social media platforms. He leads a team that covers Singapore, the region and the world for a growing audience, through ground-breaking story-telling techniques that combine the best in written and visual story-telling.

Joji Philip
Joji is the founder of DealStreetAsia. He is a 24×7 information enthusiast, currently based in Singapore, and leads a pan-Asia team. Prior to this, he was among the most prolific journalists in India, and chronicled the communications/telecoms segment, breaking some of the biggest stories in these sectors, during his tenure at The Economic Times, and Business Standard. Since 2013, he has also been with Mint, a financial daily from HT Media Ltd. Joji has won the Business Standard-Seema Nazareth Award for Excellence in Journalism in March 2006. Joon-Nie Lau

Joon-Nie leads the WAN-IFRA APAC team in Singapore. A lawyer by training, Joon-Nie spent over 15 years in broadcast television as a reporter, interactive producer, current affairs producer and news editor at Channel News Asia and its predecessors SBC News and TCS News. She has won several in-house awards for reporting, executive producing and best ‘live’ coverage and a Student Emmy for her Masters documentary project produced at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism while under a fellowship from MediaCorp. 

In her seven years teaching at Nanyang Technological University, Joon-Nie set up and headed Newsplex Asia, a US$700,000 convergent training newsroom and media lab in partnership with WAN-IFRA.

Besides being a Vice-President of the Singapore Press Club for over 16 years and co-founding the Hacks/Hackers Singapore chapter in 2015, Joon-Nie is also a regular speaker and trainer at conferences, workshops and industry panels both locally and abroad.

Dr Juliana Chan is the Publisher of Asian Scientist Magazine and CEO of Wildtype Media Group, Asia’s leading STEM-focused media company, spanning digital, print, custom publishing and events. She received a BA/MA degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK, and a PhD degree in biology from MIT, USA.

Awards received include the 2011 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Fellowship, the 2013 Singapore Youth Award, the 2014 MIT Technology Review’s 10 Innovators Under 35 from Asia Pacific and the 2017 American Chemical Society's ACS Nano Junior Fellowship. Justin Doebele
Justin Doebele is the Editor and Executive Director - Content for Forbes Asia, the latest in various roles for Forbes in Asia, including postings in Hong Kong, Jakarta and Singapore. Among his projects at Forbes have been starting and running Forbes Indonesia, starting and running the Asia Rich Lists, and launching the Singapore bureau to cover Asia for Forbes. He has traveled to and written stories from Bangladesh to New Zealand, as well as being an advisor to Forbes local editions in India, China, Japan, Mongolia, South Korea and Thailand.

Li Xin is a Vice President of Caixin Media and the Managing Director of Caixin Global, leading the company’s global news and intelligence services, as well as Caixin’s international branding and global events. 

Before Caixin, she was the Managing Editor of the Chinese Wall Street Journal and Chinese Dow Jones newswire. 

This is her second stint at Caixin, where she was formerly the Managing Editor of Caixin: China Economics & Finance, an English-language magazine, and Caixin Online. 

In 2006, she founded Caijing Magazine’s first bureau in the United States, as a correspondent of politics and economics. Li moved back to China in 2007 to head Caijing Magazine’s English-language website. Li was a documentary producer at China Central Television between 2001 and 2004.

Li is an avid pubic speaker, having moderated panels at international conferences such as the World Economic Forum, DLD and Caixin Summit, on topics such as China’s economy and finance, data privacy, AI, and women leadership. She has spoken on journalism, China’s economy and cross-border investment at Oxford University, Global Editors Network and other international conferences.

Woon Yen heads the teams responsible for developing the adjacencies of Singapore Press Holding's Chinese Media Group (CMG), including education, cultural projects, events and custom publishing. Prior to taking up this portfolio in December 2016, she was Deputy Digital Editor of CMG. She was the Business Editor of Lianhe Zaobao for two years till November 2015. Woon Yen started her career as a business journalist with Lianhe Zaobao, after which she spent seven years spearheading investor relations and corporate communications at China Aviation Oil (Singapore) Ltd, a Singapore-listed company, following the restructuring of the company in 2005. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Lulu Terianto has spent over 20 years in the Bisnis Indonesia Group, which publishes Bisnis Indonesia Daily, the largest business and economic newspaper in Indonesia. Bisnis Indonesia Group’s primary business interests span media, printing, book publishing, event management, data and research services, media services, and IT solutions. Lulu is also a member of the audit committee in a property developer and on the board of commissioners of an IT company. Maura Fogarty

Maura Fogarty is the Singapore Bureau Editor for BBC News. She is editorially responsible for BBC World News programs Newsday and Asia Business Report as well as our coverage of news and business on digital platforms. Maura is one of Asia’s most experienced journalists, having covered the region for CNBC, CNN and Channel NewsAsia (CNA). As a reporter, producer and news presenter, Maura has been based in New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Middle East, covering some of the biggest stories in the last two decades. She has interviewed numerous Heads of State, CEOs and business leaders and was a finalist in the Best News Anchor category at the 2009 Asian Television Awards. Maura has a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University.

Psychosocial Support Consultant, Singapore Red Cross Academy

Muhamad Haikel is the Psychosocial Support Consultant with Singapore Red Cross Academy. He champions the Centre for Psychosocial Support and the Centre for Emergency and Disaster Management. He is responsible for trainer management, curriculum development and conducting psychosocial support courses such as psychological first aid and community-based psychosocial support. He also oversees the development and implementation of the humanitarian short courses.

Apart from being a Certified Stress Management Consultant, he is also a Registered Social Worker-Provisional and a Registered Nurse with strong interest and passion in mental health and psychosocial support. His training is in mental health, social work, psychosocial support, applied positive psychology, disaster management, crisis management, applied suicide intervention, volunteer management and nursing.

Haikel participates actively in the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore, Disasters & Civil Emergencies Exercises, i.e. "NorthStar 9" and "Blue Dolphin" to manage crisis events and provide practical first aid and psychological first aid to the affected persons. He has been deployed for various humanitarian disaster relief and peace-time missions locally and regionally to countries such as Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Yat Chung joined SPH as a Director on 1 August 2016 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2017. He is the Chairman of the Singapore Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. Prior to joining SPH, he was the Executive Director and Group CEO of Neptune Orient Lines Ltd (2011-2016) and Senior Managing Director at Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited (2007-2011). Before joining Temasek Holdings, he was the Chief of Defence Force in the Singapore Armed Forces. He also served as a Director of Fraser & Neave Limited and Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd. Yat Chung holds a Bachelor of Arts (Engineering Tripos) and a Master of Arts from Cambridge University, a Master of Military Art and Science (General Studies) from the US Army Command & General Staff College, USA, and a MBA from Stanford University.

Nurini Kassim

Nurini Kassim was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) on 2 January 2019.

Nurini has over 30 years working experience at the management level, with a proven track record in delivery, execution and operations management. She has wide experience in the areas of brand and reputation management, strategic communications, marketing and promotions, corporate strategy, project and general management, including talent development and capacity building.

She was formerly the Head of the Corporate Affairs Department at the Employees Provident Fund from October 2015 to December 2018, where she was responsible for handling corporate and public affairs, government and external relations, media and strategic communications, reputation management including issues and crisis management as well as internal communications. Prior to that, Nurini spent 15 years at the Securities Commission Malaysia, handling a diverse range of portfolios including Corporate Affairs, the the Capital Market Development Fund, the Capital Market Promotions Unit and Islamic Finance Development and Promotions. She also has multinational and regional experience, having worked at Edelman, Informix, Hewlett- Packard and KPMG.

Nurini holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Hull, UK (1994), and has a BSc (Hons) in Computer Studies & Economics from Oxford Brookes University, UK (1985).

Communication Officer for Australia, International Committee of the Red Cross

Patrick Griffiths is the communications officer for The International Committee of the Red Cross in Australia.
