With a passion for combining data, technology and cultural insights to revolutionise company marketing strategies, Lee has transformed some of the world’s most influential brands for the digital economy. He has worked in executive leadership roles in London and across Asia and was previously Head of Digital Client Solutions at global media agency Wavemaker where he helped lead the Hong Kong agency's direction, growth, profitability and people development as well as directing global marketing campaigns for clients. Prior to that Lee was the Global Digital Strategy and Innovation Director for Vizeum in London, leading innovation across a global network for clients including Burberry and Honda. Lee also directed digital growth and marketing for multinational companies at MediaCom in Hong Kong.

Lee, who joined SCMP in December 2019, focuses on market and audience development across Asia and broader global markets to further drive its international readership.

Prior to Facebook, he spent time in Melbourne as Global Publisher for travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet before returning to Singapore as Director, Strategic Digital Media Initiatives and founder of news app NewsLoop at Singtel.

Anne Kornblut,
Anne Kornblut is a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist who now runs the news curation team at Facebook, leading a team of journalists who help power Facebook News. Before joining Facebook in 2015, she spent nearly two decades in the news industry, most recently as a senior editor at the Washington Post. She currently serves on the boards of two news non-profits.

Antonny Liem

A geek in denial and a graduate in financial management, Antonny started off his professional career in Enterprise IT and Solution Services, a journey that took him to several IT companies and a President Director position when he was 27 years old. He then pursued his passion in marketing & branding by joining a then small 14-person startup agency called SemutApi Colony as a partner and Managing Director in 2005. Together, the company grew into a Group which operates several agencies, a tech incubator/investor and technology startups. 

Antonny still has a dream that one day he will play the piano and own a coffee and steak house.

Ariane Bernard

Ariane Bernard is a product leader with a specialty in content management and delivery tools - CMS, subscription and eCommerce, analytics, CRM. She was last the chief digital officer at Le Parisien.

Diptendu Mitra
Diptendu Mitra is a strategy and business development professional with 16 years of telecommunication and technology experience across Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and India. He was based in Finland from 2000 to 2002, UK from 2002 to 2007, Dubai from 2007 to 2012 and has been in Singapore since 2012. 

He is an expert in the telecommunications industry having worked for and consulted to equipment vendors, service providers, industry regulators and investors. His work has included advisory engagements on both the consumer and enterprise sides of the telecommunication industry in topics spanning new market entry, operational and sales transformations, M&A advisory, due diligence and assessment of competitiveness in telecommunication markets. 

Diptendu holds two patents which are incorporated as part of the LTE wireless standard.

CEO, Deepnews.ai & Editor, Monday Note

Frédéric Filloux is a French journalist and an entrepreneur. He is the creator of Deepnews.ai, a project aimed at surfacing quality journalism from the web by using machine learning algorithm, a project that he started as a Knight Fellow at Stanford. He is also the editor of the Monday Note, a newsletter/blog that covers digital business models and technology since 2007. The Monday Note reaches between 30,000 and 60,000 media professionals each week and the newsletter has 13,000 subscribers.

Since 2018, he is an associate professor at Sciences-Po Journalism school.

During the academic year  2016-2017, Frederic was a Knight Fellow at Stanford University, along with seventeen other media professionals selected for the program. That’s where he started the Deepnews project.

Before that, Frederic spent four years as head of digital operations for Groupe Les Echos, France's leading business news provider. From 2007 until 2010, Frédéric Filloux was working as an editor for the international division of the Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA. In 2002, he was part of the managing team that launched the free daily 20 Minutes, which became the most read newspaper in France with 20 local editions and 120 journalits. Before, he spent 12 years at Liberation, one of the most innovative French media at the time, successively as a business reporter, New York correspondent, editor of the tech section, manager of online operations, and finally, editor of the paper.

He also has experience in the advertising business after a one-year stop at the Paris Groupe BDDP agency (now TBWA). He is a graduate of the Bordeaux School of Journalism.

Fiona Chan

George Brock is a journalist, consultant and media researcher. He was the director of the journalism school at City, University of London, from 2009 to 2014 and later a visiting professor.

He began his reporting career at the Yorkshire Evening Press and The Observer, joining The Times in 1981. After starting at The Times as a feature writer, he became a features editor and, in 1984, op-ed page editor. He was subsequently foreign editor, Brussels bureau chief, European Editor, Managing Editor and Saturday Editor.

He advises the INJECT and DMINR journalism research projects and startups in news. He is on the board of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism and Gresham College. He was on the board of the World Editors Forum 2001-14 and WEF’s president 2004-08. He was a member of the executive board of the International Press Institute.

Greg Barber is the Post newsroom's director of product. He manages the newsroom's suite of software tools and leads the groups of reporters, editors, product managers and engineers who create them. He joined The Post in 2003 as one of the founding editors of Express, was managing editor of the WaPo Labs R&D group and co-founded The Coral Project.

Greg Piechota is an academic researcher, a media consultant and a writer. As a researcher and an ex-fellow at Harvard and Oxford universities, he studies technology-enabled disruption patterns across industries, with a focus on business model innovation in news media. Mr Piechota is a former media executive with 20+ years of industry experience. He began his career at Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza in 1996 as a reporter in one of the smallest local offices rising to a news editor and a vice-president of Agora Foundation. The book, Unlocking the Customer Value Chain, which he wrote together with Professor Thales Teixeira of Harvard Business School was released in 2019 by Currency, a brand of Penguin Random House. Mr Piechota lives in Oxford, England.

Imelda Alcantara

Imelda Alcantara is the Head of Operations/Chief Operating Officer of Inquirer Interactive, Inc. the online arm of the Inquirer Group of Companies. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Group's Chief Strategic Planning Officer which gave her an overall view of the media business and sharpened her skills in strategic management, business development, operations planning, execution and organizational development. Neal Sarkar

Indranil Sarkar heads partnerships and new business initiatives at Mediacorp. He is responsible for building and managing Mediacorp’s relationships with strategic partners and driving new products and technologies to grow revenue.

Joseph Kahn

Joseph Kahn was named managing editor of The New York Times in September 2016; it is the second-ranking title in the newsroom. Prior to this, he served as assistant editor for International, his first masthead position. Before that, he served as International editor since September 2011 and deputy foreign editor since February 2008.

Mr. Kahn had been the Beijing bureau chief since July 2003. Previously, he was assigned to Shanghai. He was also a reporter in the Washington bureau, covering international economics and trade and on the business desk in New York, writing about Wall Street.

Before joining The Times in January 1998, Mr. Kahn spent four years as a China correspondent for The Wall Street Journal. He also worked as a city desk reporter and foreign correspondent for The Dallas Morning News.

In 1994 while at the Dallas Morning News, Mr. Kahn was part of a team of reporters awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting, for their stories on violence against women around the world.

In 2004, Mr. Kahn won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for international reporting for his series of stories on labor conditions in China’s export factories. The same series received a citation from the Overseas Press Club. In 2004, Mr. Kahn and his Beijing-based colleague, Jim Yardley, won the Harry Chapin Media Award in the newspaper category for a series of stories on the rising wealth gap and outbreaks of mass protests in China.

In 2006, Mr. Kahn and Mr. Yardley won a Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for their ambitious stories on ragged justice in China as the booming nation’s legal system evolves. Additionally, in 2006 Mr. Kahn and Mr. Yardley won the honorable mention in Excellence in Reporting on the Environment from Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA).

Mr. Kahn was a winner in the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) 2007 Best in Business Journalism Contest for his work on the New York Times project “Choking on Growth: China’s Environmental Crisis.”

Julie Peng

Julie Peng is Vice President of United Digital Intelligence, a leading eCommerce company operating an eCommerce B2C platform in Taiwan and providing solutions and services for brand clients entering eCommerce area. Katherine Kuan

Katherine Kuan is Vice President of Convergence Business Department, United Daily News Group, which is one of the largest media groups in Taiwan. She is responsible for branded content business and the development of subscription systems for specific user groups.

Prior to this, she was the deputy editor-in-chief of United Daily News and VP of New Media Center. She was responsible for applying new technologies to innovate storytelling and assisting in the digital transformation of newsroom.

Katherine Kuan graduated from the Law School of National Taiwan University, but she is much more enthusiastic about the media. She completed her graduate studies in Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern California, US. She is passionate about various forms of media. She has served as radio DJ, magazine reporter, TV station executive, and documentary film producer. She has also published four books.

Kathy Fong

Kathy Fong started her career in financial journalism as a business news reporter in Star Publication Bhd, which publishes an English daily, The Star, in 1998. She set up a bureau office in Shanghai in 2005 to cover China’s economic boom.

In 2008, Kathy moved to The Edge Communications, a news organisation that specialises in financial news. She is currently an executive editor at The Edge overseeing the corporate and capital market division.

Media analyst & Newsonomics author, USA

Ken Doctor’s work centers on the disruption and transformation of the news business in the digital age. For 15 years, he has covered both the great successes of digital transformation and democracy-crippling losses of local news across the Western World.  He speaks, writes and consults with companies and associations on four continents, and has become a go-to source, much quoted in media across the globe, on the landscape and the road ahead.

Newsonomics is the word he coined to describe this new discipline of understanding the money flow within the print and broadcast transition to digital. His Newsonomics site collects his broadcast appearances, and his work, including his columns for Harvard’s Nieman Journalism Lab. 

That career followed a 21-year one with Knight Ridder, then the country’s second-largest newspaper company, where he served in a number of top newsroom and digital strategy roles.  

Ken has been at work on his new local news model, Lookout Local, with the announcement of its launch time and place out in 2020 – and of its strategic partnership with the L.A. Times.

Korey Lee

Korey Lee joined the South China Morning Post in March, 2017 to spearhead the data operations of the now 115-year-old news organization. 

Before joining the SCMP, Korey was Vice President of Analytics at KeyMe, a New York-based hardware startup that leverages computer vision technology and machine learning to provide an automated and seamless key duplication experience for customers across the US. Previously, he was co-founder and CIO of SumAll, a connected data platform for over 500,000 businesses worldwide. Prior to this, he led the business intelligence and analytics teams at AppNexus and Squarespace. Korey has also worked in various capacities at Google, including revenue strategy, sales finance, payment operations, and business analytics. He was previously with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in venture capital tax and audit.

Korey holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration, and a B.S. degree in Economics from University of California Berkeley.

Lottie Laws

Lottie Laws is Head of Global Video Solutions for Twitter Australia, responsible for pushing video solutions and ideation forward to meet the needs of Australian and international advertisers. Based in Sydney for more than 6 years, Lottie previously lived in the UK where she led International Advertising for iTunes/Apple Music at Apple. Prior to that, she managed digital marketing at luxury heritage brand Mulberry.

Lottie graduated from the University of Leeds with a Bachelors in Graphic Design. A mother of two young daughters, Lottie is a keen artist and even set up a business during maternity leave to pursue her love of nature-inspired illustration. Lottie is also keen on sports, having been a Premier League basketball player in the UK and played volleyball at regional level. She also enjoys netball and tennis.

Paul Verwilt is a seasoned C-level executive with over 25 years of management experience and 15+ years in the high-tech industry. He's been COO at Mediahuis and CEO of its Digital Marketplaces in the last seven years since the merger of Belgian publishers Corelio and Concentra's news and classifieds business. Prior to that, Paul spent eight years at Concentra rising through the ranks to CIO and later COO positions.

Mediahuis is the largest newsmedia publisher in Belgium with 4 titles (De Standaard, Het Belang van Limburg, Het Nieuwsblad and Gazet van Antwerpen). Mediahuis is also the owner of NRC, the leading Dutch quality newsmedium, TMG Media with Telegraaf as its flagship and MGL, a strong regional publisher in Dutch Limburg. Recently Mediahuis acquired INM, the leading publisher in Ireland and Northern Ireland and Saint-Paul Luxembourg, owner of the Luxemburger Wort.

In addition, Mediahuis holds positions in the digital marketplaces business in Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland (Jobat, Zimmo, Hebbes, Vroom, Gaspedaal, relatieplanet, carsireland, etc) as well as radio, TV and freesheet markets. It has around 4,300 employees and revenues of just over 1000 million euros a year.

Peter Kabel

Peter Kabel is a professor of interactive media design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. He is founder of several successful companies in the area of media, technology and design - among others: „Büro Hamburg GmbH“ (1991), „Trendbüro Hamburg GmbH“ (1993), „Kabel New Media AG“ (1993) and „Tone Consultants GmbH“ (2001).

From 2004 to 2007, he acted as member of the board of „Jung von Matt AG“, one of the most influencial advertising agencies of the German speaking countries. Since 2007, he has been involved in portfolio management of Lakshmi GmbH – a private equity and vc-firm based in Hamburg. Peter Kabel is partner in investment and consulting firm AECAL GmbH based in Hamburg, Germany.

Peter Kabel teaches as full professor at „Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg“ and has received many mentions for innovation and creativity– inter alia he was decorated as „Entrepreneur of the Year 2001“, an international award founded by Ernest&Young and Deutche Börse AG.

Rey Ilagan

With 16 years in the publishing industry, he started as an editorial assistant for a fashion magazine under ABS-CBN Publishing Inc. Today, aside from being The Manila Bulletin's Creative and Design Head, he is also its Lifestyle section Sub-Editor for Fashion and Beauty. Ilagan has a Communication Arts degree from the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo De Manila University.

Roby Alampay

Roby Alampay is the founder and chairman of Puma Public Productions, a first-mover in the Philippines and Southeast Asia in non-music audio productions. 

On the business and managerial side of the industry, Roby was raised in print and built up the online news portal for a broadcasting network (TV5), eventually rising to the rank of VP, while simultaneously helming under the same media conglomerate, as editor-in-chief, the Philippines' oldest and biggest business daily (BusinessWorld) and charged with giving it a digital strategy, and help it get back in the black. Previously, he also anchored the nightly newscast ‘The Big Story’ on Bloomberg Philippines and co-anchored ‘The Chiefs’ on One News TV 5

At the end of 2019, he left all these executive corporate positions to focus on my own startup. Puma Public is a production company servicing news/media organizations, businesses, NGOs/CSOs, foundations, and even individuals looking to explore and expand their brands and content into streaming audio.

Roby's career has always been in journalism, with values fully anchored on press freedom and media independence. He was the first executive director of the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) and currently serves as Regional Advisor for the Asia Program of International Media Support (IMS) in Copenhagen.

Sally Wu

Sally Wu leads the Insights team in Asia Pacific for BBC News - Global, which operates the BBC’s commercial assets across TV and digital platforms internationally. With over 20 years of experience across market research, insights and data analysis, Sally is well versed in quantitative research methodology (including TV measurement), qualitative research methodology and data analytics. 

Prior to joining the BBC, Sally worked at Univision Communications in California, USA for 11 years, rising to the role of Media Research Director during the last 3 years of her tenure at Univision’s Los Angeles office where she was in charge of research operations and best practices of the company’s 64 owned & operated TV stations across the US and Puerto Rico. 

Sally serves as a committee member at AVIA (Asia Video Industry Association) and Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) in Singapore, Southeast Asia & India. In the past, she’s been an industry fellow at the Institute of Asian Consumer Insights at the Nanyang Technological University, a board member of the Media & Marketing Research Council of Los Angeles as well as an advisory committee member for Nielsen’s eNames Client Advisory Committee in USA. 

A native Taiwanese, Sally grew up and was educated in Taipei before getting her Master’s degree in Communications from Northwestern University, USA.

Teymoor Nabili is a veteran international journalist based in Singapore. 

Over a 28-year career he has anchored, reported and produced news and programmes for the BBC, Al Jazeera, CNBC, CNN and Channel NewsAsia. In 2008, he joined The New York Times as director of strategic planning, where he helped envision and articulate company strategy; one of the most significant of those initiatives was determining whether and how to charge digital consumers for content. In 2011, he became director of paid products, leading the cross-functional team responsible for The Times’s digital subscription business. Tim left The Times in 2013 to be publisher of the Texas Tribune, a nonpartisan, nonprofit startup in Austin.

Tan Lee Chin

Lee Chin is the Chief Operating Office (Content & Commercial) for Sin Chew Media Corporation. She currently heads the digital content and media lab department in Sin Chew, overseeing its digital assets such as www.sinchew.com.my and Pocketimes.

She joined Sin Chew Daily in 2008 as a culture and education reporter after a short stint in legal practice. Her digital journey started when she assumed the role of chief editor to the website of the paper in 2011.  Since then, she has spearheaded different digital content projects and initiatives within Sin Chew Media Group.

Executive Vice President, Amedia, Norway

Victoria C. Schultz is an executive vice president for advertising sales, and has been with Amedia since 2011. Prior to joining the top management team, she was the CEO of one of the largest newspapers in the group and a regional director where she kickstarted the digital subscription transformation of all eight newspapers while securing profitable margins which were among the highest in the group. She has been in the media industry since 1999 and has various commercial and financial roles all related to the digital development of the media business. She has experience from several media houses in Norway and Denmark.

Prior to joining the media industry she spent five years in finance, at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in London and DnB Markets in Oslo. She is on the Board of MBL (Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association), head of the consumer and advertising group at MBL and has board experience from several digital startups and growth companies. Schultz is participating in WAN-IFRA’s Media Professionals Programme (MPP) as mentor for media companies and professionals in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. Victoria holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, an MBA from NHH Norwegian School of Economics and is a Certified European Financial Analyst.
