The digital transformation of newsrooms has entered a new phase: Reader Centric. As news audiences move online, and revenue sources of news organisations get disrupted, companies need to accelerate their transformation. Newsrooms need to be at the forefront of changes.

In this new world, newsroom leaders must understand the roots of disruption and ways to transform their news organisations. They need to develop new editorial visions, find ways to engage their current and new audiences, and re-organise their newsrooms to deliver on new strategies.

This programme’s aim is to equip newsroom leaders with insight, know-how and tools, so they can build and execute a transformation strategy that consists of four parts:

Temas

  • Culture

    Understand the disruption waves and transformation patterns of the news media. Plan and lead a change management program that includes initiatives that support building an innovation culture in the newsroom.

  • Journalism

    Develop editorial vision for the news organization and its departments. Audit the current content’s performance and plan a new content portfolio that will address requirements and needs of different revenue streams such as digital advertising and subscriptions

  • Audience

    Define target audiences for their content. Plan digital audience development that includes acquisition, activation, engagement and retention. Ideate and build new editorial products and services in collaboration with Product/ Technology, Marketing, Research and Data, Sales teams

  • Operations

    Define new skills and capabilities needed to deliver on an editorial strategy. Plan new workflows and KPIs to meet the strategic objectives. Plan how to adjust resources in the newsroom to execute on a new strategy

Programme Outcome

This intensive learning and coaching program will accelerate the digital transformation of news organisations with:

  • up-to-date knowledge and insight into how the world’s leading newsrooms transform into the 21st century;

  • skills to develop a new editorial strategy and plan a content portfolio that fits different digital business models such as advertising and reader revenue;

  • practical frameworks and best practices to attract, engage and retain audiences, and build relationships with subscribers;

  • ready-to-implement proposals of new editorial products and services,

  • management tools to help in the execution: re-organise the newsroom, plan new jobs, workflows and KPIs.

The program is designed for senior newsroom leaders such as editors in chief, managing editors, members of the masthead such as digital editors, and the younger leaders who are groomed for promotion.
