In this conversation with South China Morning Post CEO Gary Liu, The New York Times' Managing Editor, Joseph Kahn, discusses how the Times has weathered the pandemic with its best-ever results of nearly 600,000 new subscriptions in Q1/2020 alone, how to prepare the newsroom for the reader revenue and product journey and the inevitable discussion around US-China relations and the upcoming US elections against the backdrop of a still-raging pandemic.

NEW PRODUCTS, NEW REVENUES
Media companies are increasingly innovating and coming up with new ideas for digital products and services which bring in new revenues.
The Washington Post’s Director of Newsroom Product, Greg Barber will speak on how product thinking is woven into the Post newsroom and the examples of tools and projects they have created using a product mindset. He will also share learnings, next steps and hopes for the future.
For Malaysia’s Sin Chew Daily Corporation, Tan Lee Chin will describe how they grew their email database by 120 per cent, increased revenue and referral traffic from social media tools and data analytics. At Sin Chew, trending stories are built up with detailed updates, growing to a monetizable length.
Catch their conversation with product consultant and former Le Parisien Chief Digital Officer, Ariane Bernard, who will be moderating this insightful session.

Victoria Schultz kickstarted digital subscription transformation for eight newspapers while securing profitable margins as regional director for Norway’s Amedia Group and CEO of one of its largest newspapers. Since 2013, Daniel Mussinghoff has been building the paid content business of Axel Springer’s BILDplus, which now has over 489,000 digital subscribers. And South China Morning Post’s Adrian Lee will speak on early lessons from the Post’s much-anticipated global subscriptions launch.
