Do I need a visa to enter Colombia?

In general, there are no entry requirements to Colombia for a maximum period of 90 days. If you wish to double-check, press this link. Please bear in mind that all visas, if required, must be requested as soon as possible, and preferably 30 days before the travel date.

Where will the conference take place? 

The conference will be held at HALL 74. 74 #14-25 - close to the financial area of Bogota. Hall 74 is a centric spot of easy pedestrian and vehicular access. Some of the nearby hotels include NH Metrotel, JW Marriott, and Hilton.  

How do I get downtown El Dorado Airport?

There are several taxi kiosks on the arrivals area of the airport terminals. Taking a taxi to downtown Bogota costs about 10 USD. In order to guarantee your safety and comfort, do not hail taxis that operate outside the terminal or are not authorized. For more information on means of transport visit El Dorado. Are street hailed taxis safe?

For your own safety, avoid hailing a taxi from the street. Use phone apps like Uber, Tappsi or Easy Taxi to order a taxi/car in Bogota, or ask a hotel employee or restaurant host to help you order one.

Where can I exchange currency?

You will find plenty of exchange places called “Casas de cambio” downtown. You can also obtain Colombian pesos by using your card at ATMs. For foreign cards, there may be a withdrawal limit per day.

What's the weather like?

Daily high temperatures are around 65°F, rarely falling below 62°F or exceeding 68°F. Daily low temperatures are around 47°F, rarely falling below 41°F or exceeding 52°F. Rain is expected so please pack warm clothing and rainwear.

Can I get the VAT refund on my shopping?

In April 2016, the Colombian government passed a new decree that eliminates the value-added tax or IVA for foreign citizens purchasing certain travel services like hotels or guided tours. You will have to keep track of qualifying purchases and provide documentation at a National Department of Taxes and Customs (DIAN) office before leaving the country and fill out a form, present a passport and provide a photocopy of a valid tourist visa. More info (Spanish)

What are the shops opening hours in Bogota? 

Shops are generally open from 9am–9pm, Monday to Saturday, from 9am-1pm, although larger shops and those on shopping avenues stay open on Sunday, often until late.  Banks are open Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm, and are closed on weekends. Cash withdrawals from ATMs can be made 24/7.

How can I call Bogota from abroad?

International country code for Colombia is 57 and the city code for Bogota is 1. If you are calling Bogotá from outside the country, dial 0057 1 and then the telephone number if it is a landline. On the other hand, the mobile phones have ten numbers and it is presented like this: (3xx) mobile company code + phone number.

How can I dial from a Colombian cell or landline?
