Anjali Kapoor is the Director of News Partnerships for APAC, Facebook where she supports the news industry in the region by partnering with news organizations to achieve their business and strategic goals on Facebook platforms. Over the past 20 years she has played a significant role in developing and growing audiences and revenue for large media and technology companies. Andrew Hunter

Andrew Hunter is Facebook’s News Partnerships Lead for Australia and New Zealand. In this role, he is leading Facebook’s growing collaboration with ANZ news organisations.

Andrew began his career as a local news reporter and has worked in newspaper, magazine and digital news rooms. He co-authored the book All Your Friends Like This: How Social Networks Took Over News, which looks at the relationship between the news industry and social networks.

Cedric Delzenne

A Digital Marketing Specialist with a passion for technology with a purpose, Cedric Delzenne moved to Hong Kong in 2010. He successfully bootstrapped Asia’s 1st online sales & marketing platform for emerging fashion designers before launching the local Chapter of Silicon Valley start-up incubator Founder Institute. He is currently Managing Director at 55, the data company, helping global publishers & advertisers increase marketing, advertising and sales performance across channels through the agile collection, exploration and activation of their data assets. Cherilyn Ireton heads up the World Editors Forum, the global network for editors within WAN-IFRA. She is a seasoned newspaper professional, having spent more than 20 years on South African newspapers, as journalist and editorial manger on the country's leading titles, the Sunday Times and Business Day. She rose to be Chief Operating Officer of BDFM Publishers, the business media joint venture between Pearson, owners of the Financial Times, and Times Media in South Africa which published Business Day newspaper, the Financial Mail magazine and Summit TV. She relocated to the UK in 2005 and owned an ran a London-based media consultancy, Presslinks, which advised a variety of international organizations and foreign governments.

Danto Dewanto

Danto Dewanto is a combination of planner, strategist, brand and digital person. He has been tinkering with digital stuff for over 9 years, from Content Management, Product Management, Pre Sales to Digital Strategy.

From 2008-2017, he dedicated his talent to two of the most respected media companies in Indonesia, MNC Group and Metro TV. Danto began his career at MNC Group in 2008, where he served as a Content Management Officer. From 2010-2014, he was promoted twice to become Head of Product Management and Business Support, and Head of Pre Sales.

In November 2014, Danto left MNC Group to join Metrotvnews.com as its Head of Digital Strategy Planners. He helped boost the company into a multibillion-rupiah-a-year business and doubled its size.

Daxim Rey Lucas
Daxim Rey Lucas is the Inquirer Prime Content Editor concurrent with his role as Writing Editor for the Business section. He is a highly seasoned and award winning journalist who joined the Inquirer as Reporter 14 years ago, rose to Writing Editor and then recently to his new full-time appointment as Inquirer Prime Content Editor. Prior to joining the Inquirer, he was the Business Editor of Manila Standard Today, News Editor of The Manila Times and covered the Malacanang Palace for Business World. He earned his Management Degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and completed his Masters in Development Management at the Asian Institute of Management.

Gary Liu is CEO of South China Morning Post, a leading English-language media company covering China and Asia. Founded in 1903, SCMP is headquartered in Hong Kong and is the city’s newspaper of record. Along with its flagship news products, SCMP also publishes Hong Kong’s premier lifestyle and fashion magazines, including Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Elle Men, Esquire and Cosmopolitan. Prior to joining SCMP in January 2017, Gary was CEO of Digg, spearheading the New York startup’s transformation from aggregator to a data-driven news platform. Previously, Gary was Head of Spotify Labs, where he led emerging technologies and business strategies for Spotify’s global markets, after joining as Global Director of Ad Product Strategy. Gary has also worked at AOL and Google.

Born in the United States, Gary grew up in Taiwan and New Zealand, before returning to the American Northeast where he lived and worked for 20 years. He currently lives in Hong Kong with his wife Katrina, a pediatric dentist. Gary is an Economics graduate from Harvard University.

Chia Ting Ting is the chief commercial officer and head of advertising at Malaysia’s largest online news portal, Malaysiakini that appreciates something that many press advocates overlook: independent journalism requires financial independence as well.

Malaysiakini was launched in 1999. Ting Ting joined in 2008 and started building the kind of revenue streams sought by online media companies around the world. By staying in tune with global developments in media and advertising and building relationships with mentors in the commercial advertising sector, Ting Ting has kept Malaysiakini in a position to challenge those in power.

Under Ting Ting’s leadership, Malaysiakini has begun to offer premium advertising options and revamped the site’s layout to increase click-through rates. Malaysiakini is now experimenting with native advertising, ads that look and feel like the other articles on Malaysiakini’s site—though are clearly demarcated as paid-for—to move beyond the low impact and revenues provided by ad networks.

Elllana Lee

Ellana Lee is Senior Vice President & Managing Editor, Asia Pacific, for CNN International, and Global Head of Features Content, based in the network’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. Lee is the network’s most senior executive outside of the United States.

As head of the Asia Pacific region and its editorial output, she manages CNN's award-winning on-air news programming produced there, including the correspondents and newsgathering teams across eight operations, from Kabul to Seoul.

As Global Head of Features content across CNN International television and CNN Digital, she is responsible for the partnership between CNN’s international editorial and commercial teams, helping to drive the network’s business outside the United States. CNN’s features group is an integrated, cross-platform, award-winning creative team, producing more than 1000 hours of premium original programming every year. This encompasses long-form series, documentaries and specials for TV, digital and social platforms across eight production hubs in Hong Kong, London, Abu Dhabi, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Johannesburg and Miami.

Under Lee’s management, CNN has received a variety of prestigious awards, including five award wins at the Asian Academy Creative Awards in 2018. The Royal Television Society (RTS) awarded CNN the coveted Best News Coverage International prize in 2013 for its reporting of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and this and other reporting from the region played a key role in CNN International winning the RTS News Channel of the Year in 2013 and 2012.

Lee has also received numerous personal accolades, including ContentAsia’s ‘Asia Media Woman of the Year’ in 2018 for her commitment to the news media industry. Lee was also an integral part of CNN’s coverage of the historic Inter-Korean and the Trump-Kim summits in 2019 and 2018. 

In recognition of her leadership position, Lee was named a 'Young Global Leader' by the World Economic Forum and now sits on the board of the Young Global Leaders Foundation. She is an Asia 21 fellow, as awarded by the Asia Society, and is a graduate of Harvard's 'Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century' Executive Program. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and The Nature Conservancy’s Asia Pacific Council, and sits on the advisory board of The Murrow Centre at Tuft University.

Georgina Ferri has a degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, also has a General Management Program at IESE Business School and an Executive Master in Digital Business at ESADE Business School. She is currently the Chief Innovation Officer in the ARA newspaper, a small newspaper in Catalonia that has a successful subscription model. She has a directive experience in public and private companies and has worked as a reporter in the main television networks in Catalonia and Spain.

Glenn van Zutphen
Glenn van Zutphen is a career international journalist and is the founder of VanMedia Group Pte Ltd, a worldwide media consultancy. For over 14 years, he has coached more than 2,600 high-performing journalists,  business leaders, and entrepreneurs around the world to deliver confident, credible, and clear communication across digital and news media platforms, and conferences. He also is the host of the “Weekend Mornings” radio show on MoneyFM 89.3, Singapore’s most trusted business news station. 

In 25+ years as a professional journalist, he worked in print, radio, TV, and online news based in the U.S., Japan, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore for the likes of CNN International, CNBC Asia, NHK Japan, ABC News Radio and others. 

Glenn currently sits on the Boards of  Asian American Journalists Association (Asia) and the East-West Center Alumni Association. He is a Past-President of the Foreign Correspondents Association of Singapore, the American Association of Singapore, and the Atlanta Press Club. Glenn is an active member of Asia Professional Speakers Singapore, the American Chamber of Commerce (Singapore), and the Singapore Press Club. Glenn co-authored “Happy Customers Everywhere” and “The American Journey in Singaporeand contributed chapters to five editions of “Living in Singapore Reference Guide” as well as to “Insights from the Inside Volume II by the Singapore International Foundation. 

A Singapore Permanent Resident with his wife and children, Glenn is the inaugural recipient of the East-West Center's 21st Century Outstanding Service Award for his volunteer work across the region.

Greg Piechota is an academic researcher, a media consultant and a writer. As a researcher and an ex-fellow at Harvard and Oxford universities, he studies technology-enabled disruption patterns across industries, with a focus on business model innovation in news media. Mr Piechota is a former media executive with 20+ years of industry experience. He began his career at Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza in 1996 as a reporter in one of the smallest local offices rising to a news editor and a vice-president of Agora Foundation. The book, Unlocking the Customer Value Chain, which he wrote together with Professor Thales Teixeira of Harvard Business School was released in 2019 by Currency, a brand of Penguin Random House. Mr Piechota lives in Oxford, England.

Ivor Price
Co-Founder of Food For Mzansi, Ivor Price, is a multi-award-winning journalist whose accolades include three ATKV Mediaveertjie Awards as the nation’s Best Columnist (2017) and Best Presenter of a Radio Current Affairs Show (2016 and 2017). The former TV News Anchor also presented a popular television show in which he traveled more than 100,000km to interview the movers and shakers of South Africa’s agricultural industry. Jacqui Park

Jacqui is a journalist, editor and media strategist. She is a senior research fellow at the Centre for Media Transition at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and founder and principal of Engagement By Design. She is currently advising the International Press Institute on membership and digital transition strategy. She writes a fortnightly newsletter on media startups and innovation in Asia Pacific. Previously she was CEO of the prestigious Australian Walkley Foundation for journalism, co-founder of the Splice Beta festival for Asian media startups and innovators in 2019 and a 2016 Knight fellow at Stanford University. Her research on news media innovation 2020 was published by UTS in December 2019.

Jensen Boey
Jensen Boey is Head of Programme Management Office (PMO) and Value Engineering within the Technology division of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH). One of his key roles is to provide standards and best practices to communicate the cost, quality and value of IT investments to stakeholders both within and outside of the SPH Group. Joe Martin

Joe Martin is Vice President of commercial partnerships at Dow Jones in APAC. He is responsible for driving digital membership growth for The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones through strategic partnerships.

Previously, Joe was Senior Relationship Manager for The Wall Street Journal and Financial News based in London where he oversaw the corporate sales operation across EMEA. Joe first started at Dow Jones in 2012 before relocating to Hong Kong in 2015 where he is now based.

Joey Chung

Joey Chung is the Co-Founder and CEO of The News Lens, one of the fastest growing new digital news sites in Asia which was started in mid 2013. Before starting The News Lens, he was with the Japanese multinational character and media company Sanrio, first starting out in San Francisco and Los Angeles as its Business Development Manager before being sent as President of its China Operations in Shanghai between 2011-2013 after of which he left to start The News Lens. Before that, he worked for Polo Ralph Lauren in New York, the Equity Research Department of investment bank UBS, and was a reporter and columnist for The Taipei Times.

Joon-Nie Lau

Joon-Nie leads the WAN-IFRA APAC team in Singapore. A lawyer by training, Joon-Nie spent over 15 years in broadcast television as a reporter, interactive producer, current affairs producer and news editor at Channel News Asia and its predecessors SBC News and TCS News. She has won several in-house awards for reporting, executive producing and best ‘live’ coverage and a Student Emmy for her Masters documentary project produced at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism while under a fellowship from MediaCorp. 

In her seven years teaching at Nanyang Technological University, Joon-Nie set up and headed Newsplex Asia, a US$700,000 convergent training newsroom and media lab in partnership with WAN-IFRA.

Besides being a Vice-President of the Singapore Press Club for over 16 years and co-founding the Hacks/Hackers Singapore chapter in 2015, Joon-Nie is also a regular speaker and trainer at conferences, workshops and industry panels both locally and abroad.

Kevin Huang

Kevin was appointed Head of Birdie in March 2019. He is responsible for the overall development and growth of the Birdie business. He has been leading Birdie as a digital only mobile operator targeting millennials, with an emphasis on innovative products and community features, such as the embedded Travel Day Pass, Data P2P, “Birdie Farm” Mobile Game, Member-Get-Member Rewards Program, Birdie Friday and more. 

Kevin is a leader in the digital industry. He has been instrumental in driving the adoption of digital advertising on a network basis, data-driven marketing, mobile advertising and mobile rich media in Asia. He is the founding board member of the Hong Kong chapter of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).

In addition, Kevin is an award-winning entrepreneur having won numerous business awards. Prior to joining Birdie, Kevin was the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pixels, a leading digital advertising technology headquartered in Hong Kong, a position he held for 17 years. He has also served in various roles at digital companies such as DoubleClick and 247 Media Asia (china.com corporation).

Korey Lee

Korey Lee joined the South China Morning Post in March, 2017 to spearhead the data operations of the now 115-year-old news organization. 

Before joining the SCMP, Korey was Vice President of Analytics at KeyMe, a New York-based hardware startup that leverages computer vision technology and machine learning to provide an automated and seamless key duplication experience for customers across the US. Previously, he was co-founder and CIO of SumAll, a connected data platform for over 500,000 businesses worldwide. Prior to this, he led the business intelligence and analytics teams at AppNexus and Squarespace. Korey has also worked in various capacities at Google, including revenue strategy, sales finance, payment operations, and business analytics. He was previously with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in venture capital tax and audit.

Korey holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration, and a B.S. degree in Economics from University of California Berkeley.

Kobus Louwrens
Kobus Louwrens is Co-Founder of Food For Mzansi and Strategy Director of YehBaby, a digital marketing agency. He is an award-winning environmental journalist, who previously published leading magazines and community newspapers in both South Africa and East Africa. This MBA graduate developed digital strategies for various small-to-medium enterprises and entrepreneurs. Under Kobus’s visionary leadership YehBaby has developed breakthrough digital marketing for numerous agricultural, wine and tourism brands.

Siang Kiang started out at Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) as a software developer but have since in the last 15 years project managed several high value systems selection, procurement and implementations to support SPH's Print and Digital Newsroom operations.

As Digital Editor of the South China Morning Post, Laura Warne leads the newsroom's digital production, social media, video and podcasting teams. She also works closely with colleagues in data, product, marketing and advertising teams on audience growth and engagement initiatives. Laura joined the company in 2016 and has been deeply involved in the digital transformation of the newsroom. Before moving to Hong Kong, she held senior digital editorial roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and News Corp.

Loke Chee Soon

Mr Loke Chee Soon has over 18 years of experience in the information technology field. He began his journey with Sin Chew Media Corporation in 2011, currently designated as Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and responsible for management of ICT departmental and digital advertising operations. One of his noteworthy achievement is his committed efforts which spearheads Sin Chew Media Corporation in achieving the ASOCIO Outstanding User Organization Award in year 2017.

He is also Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and holds number of security professional certifications including Certified Ethical Hacker v7, Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), Ethical Network Security Administrator (ENSA) and CSM-Certified Secure Application Professional (CSAP).

Director of News Ecosystem Development, Google, UK

In his role, Madhav Chinnappa works on partnerships and collaboration between Google and the news industry.  Most recently, he launched the Digital News Initiative which in March 2018 evolved to become part of the Google News Initiative, Google's overarching global framework for engagement with the news ecosystem.  

Madhav joined Google in 2010 to focus on Google News & Magazines in the EMEA region. He has worked in the news industry since 1994 - first in the launch team of Associated Press Television (APTV), a year in M&A at United News & Media and spent over 9 years at BBC News, latterly as Head of Development & Rights.

 

Director Video, SCMP

Mat Booth spent 17 years at CNN working on projects around the world.  Working out of the Hong Kong Production centre, Mat covered the Olympic Games in Beijing, various live shows across Asia and Europe, helped set up CNN Philippines and CNN Indonesia, while always supporting the Post Production facilities back home.

Mat moved to the post of Head of Video with the South China Morning Post in 2017 to build a world class Video production unit.  Leveraging the power of social media and the latest digital media workflows, Mat has overseen an expansion of Video output to reach new viewers and experiment with new storytelling possibilities.  This has resulted in a massive rise in Video viewers and has significantly expanded the horizons of the SCMP.

All of this was done within the transformation of the SCMP from a traditional print newspaper to a global digital media service.

Norma Chu

Norma Chu was born and raised in Hong Kong. Prior to DayDayCook, Norma was the head of equities research at HSBC Private Bank. Norma started DayDayCook in 2012 where she turned her passion for cooking into the business. In 2015, Norma brought DayDayCook to Shanghai and entered the China market.

Norma designed DayDayCook to satisfy today’s young female millennial who need for a better lifestyle and has been providing a 360-degree lifestyle experience to them. As a journalist for more than 20 years Phil spent a decade as Senior International Producer at current affairs program ’60 Minutes’ where he travelled the world covering major news events including 9/11, the Iraq War, Japan tsunami, Pakistan elections and Ebola crisis.

He also worked as Senior Content Producer at NextVR in Los Angeles, leading a partnership with Oculus.

For more than thirty years, Richard Gingras has led highly-regarded efforts in the development of online services, software, and new media. These endeavors range from pioneering uses of satellite networking for television, the first applications of television signals for data distribution, both pre-Web and Web-based online services, and the creation of various platform technologies. Over the last several years Gingras has focused his attention on the transformation of the media landscape.  

He serves on the boards of the First Amendment Coalition, the International Center for Journalists. In the fall of 2012, Gingras was recognized with the Manship Prize for contributions to the evolution of digital media. The Manship Prize is awarded by the Manship School of Mass Communications at Louisiana State University. In May 2013, Gingras gave a commencement speech at West Virginia University. Until July, 2011, Gingras was CEO of Salon Media Group which operates the popular and acclaimed news site Salon.com, the blogging community OpenSalon.com, and the pioneering virtual community The Well. Gingras has had a long association with Salon having assembled its initial seed financing in 1995. Salon was the first web-only publication.

Victor Cheng

Victor joined Comscore, Inc., a global media measurement and analytics company, as Vice President for the North Asia region in 2010, bringing with him more than 15 years of multimedia sales, marketing and key account servicing experience. Victor is particularly noted for his insights into the fast-changing digital world, and experience in helping leading corporations, including Alibaba Group, Baidu and Samsung, in their digital monetisation needs.

Victor is actively involved in digital forums, industry events and professional education in Asia. In 2016, Victor, with representatives from 6 other founding members including Facebook, Google, Next Digital, Oath, Pixels and SCMP Group, formed IAB HK. Victor serves as the HK IAB Vice Chairman in making his contribution to the local digital industry. Among other speaking engagements, he has been invited to deliver a keynote presentation at Google’s Think Export conference in China. He is also a frequent guest speaker on digital analytics at local universities.

Prior to Comscore, Victor served as Senior Account Director of Ad Sales and Marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment where he successfully built the venture into a key revenue centre for the company. Previously, Victor was Head of Business Development for MSN at Microsoft where he was the first business development leader for MSN in Hong Kong, developing the operation from inception into one of the chief revenue centres for MSN in Asia.
