    Stars4Media: Accelerating media innovation

    Stars4Media is an exchange and training programme for young media professionals to accelerate media innovation and cross-border coverage in Europe. The programme was piloted in 2020 by WAN-IFRA, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Fondation EURACTIV and The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and is co-funded by the European Union. The programme sponsored ​21 initiatives, involving 105 young media professionals.   On 14 October, the programme will organize the “Media4Europe" final event and award 5 prizes in: DATA, TRUST, CRISIS Innovation and two special jury awards: Diversity (gender, backgrounds), Cross-border cooperation (democracy at risk). This short session will give a short overview of the Stars4Media programme and present the 5 winning initiatives. More information on www.stars4media.eu

    AI in journalism is not just a buzzword: it's already employed across the news making process. How might news organisations find new ways to use AI to add value to the journalism they produce?
    The JournalismAI Collab – short for "collaborative experiment – was designed as a space for journalists from across the world to explore this question together and imagine innovative solutions.
    In this session, Collab participants from three different teams will share what they are learning about the potential of automated summaries to unlock the hidden potential of evergreen articles,
    algorithms to optimise content recommendation engines, and how AI might support the gamification of user engagement. JournalismAI is a project of POLIS – the journalism think-tank of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) – supported by the Google News Initiative.

    Pinpoint: new AI driven search tool for journalists working on large document sets

    Pinpoint is the anchor product of Journalist Studio, a collection of tools to empower journalists to do their work more efficiently, creatively, and securely. The tool helps reporters use Google Search and Knowledge Graph, optical character recognition and speech-to-text technologies to search through scanned PDFs, images, handwritten notes, e-mails and audio files.
